2. A Society Dedicated for Advancement of SHM Technologies
Advancing the understanding and the application of structural health monitoring (SHM) systems and related asset management methodologies for engineering infrastructures by international sharing of knowledge and experience
Objectives
• Promote innovative SHM solutions as an integrated part of designed and existing structures
• Provide rapid warnings by applied SHM systems to assure public & structural safety in all areas of civil infrastructure
• Consider and optimize SHM technologies needed to respond to technical and societal challenges with the particular objective to manage risks and to extend lifetime of aged structures
• Promote collaboration to maximize the benefit of the international research and development effort; develop educational modules to train and involve all members
• Consider the integration of SHM systems into structure components already in the design phase of a structure to enable better evaluation of the materials’ behaviour as well as provide a tool for effective inspection during construction and operation
• Foster international harmonization of SHM design and application standards
• Accelerate the acceptance of SHM as a major performance measurement and evaluation tool by owners and authorities
