3 Freshman Year Courses in high school build and expand on what you learned in middle school More Responsibility Dress Code Attendance Get to school and class on time Active participant in the learning process Classwork & Homework

4 HIGH EXPECTATIONS You are expected to: Come to school every day
Dress in accordance with the dress code policy Arrive to school and all of your classes on time Be an active participant in your learning by participating in class, completing all of your class and home work, and asking for help when you need it. Treat others with respect Be a leader in the school and in the community Adhere to the rules in the student handbook

5 CHANGES Block scheduling – 4 classes, 1 hour 30 minutes
Attendance – taken by block not by day High school is credit driven Credits are earned based on the amount of time you spend in the classroom The following promotion policy is in effect at Americus-Sumter High School. 6 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Earn required number of units/credits 25 credits to graduate Meet the course requirements Must take 4 Math, English, Science, Social Studies Intro to Business & Technology Health & Physical Education Pass all required Georgia Milestones Tests

7 EARN REQUIRED NUMBER OF UNITS/CREDITS
SEAL REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 9 TH GRADE 2013 AND SUBSEQUENT YEARS AREAS OF STUDY UNITS REQUIRED English/Language Arts 4 units Mathematics 4 units Science 4 units Social Studies 4 units Health & Physical Edu. 1 unit Introduction to Business & Technology 1 unit Career Pathway 3 units Electives 4 units TOTAL UNITS 25 units *Students planning to enter or transfer into a University System of Georgia institution must take two units of the same foreign language.

8 WHERE WILL A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA TAKE ME?
Technical College Two-Year College Four-Year University You need 2 semesters of the same foreign language to meet college admission requirements Military Work Force

12 Attitude = Altitude Attitude - a feeling or way of thinking that affects a person's behavior Altitude – How far you will go in life

13 Motivation Motivation- the general desire or willingness of someone to do something Set at least 3 goals for this school year. Setting goals will help you stay motivated.

14 You Control Your Success
The only person you can control is YOU You control your thoughts You control your behavior You control your attitude Having a positive attitude, thinking positive and staying motivated will lead to a successful 9th grade year! YOU CAN DO THIS!

15 THE ROAD TO GRADUATION AND BEYOND
Come to school everyday in dress code Keep a positive attitude Get to school and class on time Be an active participant in your learning. Come prepared, do your classwork, ask questions, do your homework, and study (Try, Try, & Try again) Ask and get extra help when you need it Talk to your counselor/advisor Stay motivated Meet graduation requirements
