2 Early Years Peter the Great
Peter the great established rule in 1696 Undertook Extensive reforms in an attempt to establish Russia as a great nation Is credited for bringing Russia to the Age of Enlightenment Built up both the Military and Navy as well as the Education of Russia

Focused on development of Science and technology Developed a better commerce and industry for Russia and its people Modernized the Russian Alphabet and introduced the Julian Calendar Established the first Newspaper Was also a skillful diplomat and foreign policy leader

4 The Early Years The Dark side of Peter
Established St. Petersburg Was a tyrant who over taxed the Russian people and crushed several revolts from his own people Brilliant leader won lands through war from Estonia all the way to the black sea Once led an enemy to Poltva in the middle of an unbearable Russian winter.

5 The Romanov Line Romanov Line started with a young King named Mikhail
Mother protested his election felt he was too young – 16 years old He established the Military first giving Russia a National army His son would succeed him also at the age of 16 Unlike his father he wanted the role of Csar

6 The Romanov Line Aleskey was well liked and considered by many to be a great ruler His son Fyodor would take his place. Considered by many to be very intelligent, would establish the Feudal hierarchy that would rule Russia for three Centuries After a bloody family feud his son Peter and Ivan caused a split

7 The Romanov Line The two would rule separately for years those loyal to Ivan followed Ivan. Those loyal to Peter followed Peter After the death of Ivan in 1696 Peter took sole leadership He is mostly credited for bridging the gap between Europe and Russia He was quick tempered and ruthless. Died in 1725 due to serious health problems

8 The first woman to Rule Russia
Peters widow Ekaterina would take over after his death Responded to quickly to outside influence No matter how important the issue she trusted her advisors and aides The Russian Supreme Privy Council was established under rule which would not bring any issues to her until it got through them.

9 The end of the Romanov Line
After ruling for several centuries the Romanov family line met its demise with Nicholas II He ruled from 1902 until his death in 1917 Refusing to leave and accept whatever fate bestowed upon him he did not flee, he and his Empress and their five children stayed. The Romanov family line was slaughtered by the Bolsheviks in 1917
