Welcome to the Freshman Registration

2 How to Navigate to Our Website:
First Step:

3 What is a credit? A point system which high schools use to show how many classes you have taken and passed successfully. You earn .5 credits for each class you take and pass in a semester. 2 semesters = 1 credit 8 classes/semester = 4.0 credits which equates to possible 8.0 credits earned per year.

4 STAAR EOC With the STAAR program, students will be required to take up to 5 STAAR EOC assessments depending on their graduation program: English I English II Algebra I Biology U.S. History

5 What is a GPA? GPA – Grade Point Average
The average of all Semester grades taken for High School credit. Determines your class rank. (How your grades compare to everyone in your graduating class.) One important consideration for college admission

6 Timeline for 9th grade Get to know your counselor
Take rigorous courses and make good grades Meet End of Course standards Get involved in extra-curricular activities Perform volunteer work Visit school/counseling center website often

11 Considerations Regular, Pre-AP/AP Some classes require pre-approval
Students do not pick the class period or teacher There is no study hall period – Tutorials are before and after school Students can take advantage of Library Nights to get assistance on homework Be certain of choices before requesting classes

12 Selecting Core Courses (1 credit each)
English I or ▪Pre AP English Debate I - 1 credit ▪ Speech – ½ credit with UIL competitions Algebra I or Geometry ▪ Pre AP Geometry Biology ▪ Pre AP Biology World Geography ▪ Pre AP World Geog.

13 Driver’s Ed (½ elective credit)
Must be 15 years old in the semester in which it is taken. Can pay over 2 payments ($250 total) Driving portion completed in June Can do driving portion as “Parent Taught” but must let teacher know

14 Foreign Language (1 credit)
Spanish I ▪Spanish II American Sign Language (ASL) is available starting 10th grade year. Need a minimum of 2 years to graduate

15 Health (½ credit) Codes are different based on gender.
Must have this health class before graduation. Great paired with Communication Application since both are 1 semester each.

16 PE & PE Equivalent Must have 1 credit before graduation
Notice the last digit in the course number “0” = 1 semester & ½ credit “3” = full year & 1 whole credit If you want 2 or more Sports Select Fall sport for scheduling purposes. Schedule changed at semester

17 PE & PE Equivalent Band Band/Guard (color guard)
1st semester = ½ credit for PE 2nd semester = ½ credit for Fine Art Band/Guard (color guard) Babes – can count as PE or Fine Art 91643 Drill team = PE credit 81643 Dance I = Fine Art credit JROTC-can count as PE credit or Elective

18 Fine Arts Must have 1 credit before graduation Band
1st semester = ½ credit for PE 2nd semester = ½ credit for Fine Art Band/Guard (Color Guard) Babes – can count as PE or Fine Art 91643 Drill team = PE credit 81643 Dance I = Fine Art credit

19 Electives Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources Hospitality
Arts, A/V Technology, & Communication Informational Technology Human Services JROTC Other courses become available later. See Reverse side for complete list

20 Final Selections Ultimately need a total of 8 credits
Notice the last digit in the course number “0” = 1 semester & ½ credit “3” = full year & 1 whole credit Notice the “Pre Requisite” courses in each area. Be sure to list 2 alternates

21 Graduation Plan Ensure correct courses are indicated on the Graduation Plan.

22 Graduation Plan If choosing Debate, mark through Communication App and write it in below. Replace the ½ credit course with another Fill in areas until 8 credits are listed. Debate I Class selection

32 Login to Skyward Can use iPad or PC
iPad tends to work better using the Skyward App, but you can use Safari and find the url on the district website. Course Selection Worksheet (pastel yellow) Graduation Plan with Endorsements

33 Ideally, use student user name & password
Ideally, use student user name & password. Then select “Schedule” on the left side

35 Select Courses

36 Continue adding your courses until you have finished

37 Select 2 Alternate Classes in case your original request is not available.

38 Use the same process to select your Alternate Course Selections (R) is for Requested (A) is for Alternate

39 Add two Alternate Courses

40 If you have selected a course that you do not want to add, you can remove it by: 1st clicking on the Selected Course that you no longer want. Then click on "Remove Course" This will remove the course from this list. It can be added back by going through the original selection process if removed by mistake.

41 When you are finished, simply click on the X
When you are finished, simply click on the X. It will automatically save your Requested and Alternate Classes. You can double check that your Courses were submitted by clicking on this link again.
