2 Year 1 Objectives Word Sentence Text
use regular plural noun suffixes –s or –es e.g. dog, dogs; wish, wishes suffixes that can be added to verbs where no change is needed in the spelling of root words e.g. helping, helped, helper how the prefix un– changes the meaning of verbs and adjectives e.g. kind-unkind, tie/untie the boat Sentence how words can combine to make sentences joining words and joining clauses using ‘and’ Text sequencing sentences to form short narratives

In class we have one grammar lesson a week which is linked to the extended write lesson for that week. Grammar Lesson Learning Objective: I can use expanded noun phrases (watch Espresso) size colour space object enormous blue moon tiny silver star I can see an enormous blue moon. There is a tiny silver star in the distance.

Key Stage 1 Reading Comprehension

12 Year 1 Objectives identify the main events and characters in stories and find specific information in simple texts make predictions showing an understanding of ideas, events and characters recognise the main elements that shape different texts explain the effect of patterns of language and repeated words and phrases

13 Year 2 Objectives draw together ideas and information from across a whole text, using simple sign posts in the text give some reasons for why things happen or characters change explain organisational features of texts e.g. alphabetical order, layout, captions explore how particular words are used, including words and expressions with similar meanings

14 Reading Comprehension Lesson
In class we have one Reading comprehension lesson a week and two guided reading lessons. Reading Comprehension Lesson Learning Objective: To answer questions on what you have read, using the text Success Criteria: I know what the question words mean I can use the questions to find the answers in the text I can write in full sentences using capital letters and full stops

15 Types of questions which-a choice why-a reason what-happening or event where-place how-explain when-time Which book is your favourite? Why do you like that illustration best? What happened to the boy at the park? Where are the family going? How did they make their friend feel better? When is their birthday?

16 How you can help at home Grammar Make sure your child learns their weekly spellings and revise these whenever possible. Writing for a purpose e.g. a thank you letter, a poem about grandma for her birthday. Check punctuation-can they use ! and ? Make it more interesting-expanded noun phrases. Use when, if, that or because, or, and, but to make longer sentences.

17 Reading Comprehension
How you can help at home Reading Comprehension Make sure your child reads with an adult at least 5 times a week and sign their reading record. Ask your child questions about what they are reading e.g. How are the characters behaving? What is the character saying? What does this tell us about them? Why do you think the author chose this word to describe the girl?
