Stavanger Sport Council History 1969: Founded 3rd. February 2001: Increased focus on including vulnerable groups into sport 2002: Hired first manager/CEO (Arne) 2003: Moved into Hansons Minde (built in 1860) 2004: Expanded team with one sports consultant 2007: Sport+ initiative, ”inclusive sport” available for all clubs 2007: Expanded team further with one more sports consultant 2017: Expanded team with a Sports Patrol leader

4 The Sport in Stavanger There are 148 sports clubs and teams members under 19 (Stavanger population ) 20 of these clubs have over 500 members 31 clubs have leaders in full or half position There are in addition many teams organised in company sports Sport facilities 11 indoor sport arenas, 48 footballfields outdoor 4 swimming pools, 25 meters 3 indoor ice arenas

5 Mission statement The Sports Council represent all sports clubs and teams in Stavanger a) Strengthen sports role and frameworks in the local community b) Make priorities on behalf of the sports clubs and teams c) Document and highlight the scope of sports in the community and develop local sportspolitical action plans d) Act as a meeting and development space between the public and volunteers Some of the target groups we continuously work with: Children at risk Disadvantaged and vulnerable youths Immigrant families in need of social inclusion People with physical and mental disabilities

6 Day-to-day tasks Offer advice and guidance for sport and county
Participate in the planning process of sporting facilities Work to ensure all sports teams have adequate facilities, training opportunities and finance Give youths an opportunity to speak via the Youth Council Distribute public grants POC with regards to allocation of training times Work actively to reduce decline in participation, esp. w/girls Social responsibility beyond primary tasks – use sports as a tool to counteract community issues Establish more and easier contact points between the public and volunteering efforts

7 Idrett+ (Sport+) Including vulnerable groups into ordinary sport
Help clubs include children (aged 6-19) who inhabit various issues into their usual teams and activities. The issues may relate to: different diagnoses, social / behavioural problems, inactivity, etc. immigrants mentally challenged financial difficulties

8 Ongoing projects Helping individual children and families
Financial aid for training, kit, registration, transport, etc. Open sports-hall: 5 indoor sportshalls are open every Friday Positive alternative for ages 13-19 Targetting vulnerable youth in battle against drugs and alcohol Sport and challenge group: One assigned club gather a group of youngsters with various social/physical/mental challenges on a weekly basis. Together they actively try different sports in different clubs/arenas. Swimmingcourses: One swimming club offers instruction and lessons to muslim girls to help them learn to swim

Sharing knowledge and consultancy on issues related to social inclusion for vulnerable groups Support groups/projects in managing events with limited resources Contribute new ideas and perspectives to different cultures on how to use sport as a tool for society Assist in the planning and implementation of workshops or similar events
