Abstract: Join End Rape on Campus for a conversation with our Campus Policy Manager. Ever Hana is a queer and trans lawyer, educator, and activist. During this workshop, Ever will discuss the changing state and federal policy landscape related to addressing violence in education. Ever will focus specifically on the experiences and needs of queer, trans, and gender-nonconforming students. They will share a case study from EROC’s legislative advocacy in Colorado. Attendees will also learn about other promising pieces of proactive state legislation.

This practice asks you to take stock of your privileges and the space you take up when organizing or participating in events. Community building requires humility and solidarity, and the practice of moving up and moving back helps you bring both.
Move up when you’re directly impacted by the discussion, when you have a great idea that hasn’t yet been shared, when you have a concern unique to yourself or an identity you hold.
Move back when you have already added to the discussion many times, when someone of a directly impacted identity wishes to offer their experience or insight, when you’re actually just restating something that has already been said.

5. Workshop Objectives
Attendees will be able to discuss promising state legislation as well as recent policy initiatives that center the needs of all collegiate survivors.
Attendees will complete a deep dive into policy language that centers LGTBIA+ students and student survivors.
Attendees will leave the workshop with next steps for their own legislative advocacy.

13. Policy Recommendations Moving Forward
Trans and Gender Nonconforming Students deserve full acknowledgement in all policy and legislation related to Title IX, which must include:
Anti-discrimination messaging from administrators and the larger community
Inclusive definitions throughout the sexual misconduct policy
Mandatory trainings to all relevant staff
Designated positions and representation across campus policy issues
