2 p ) Simile: -A comparison of two things using "like" or "as" Ex. The pimple on my nose is like a volcano ready to explode. p ) Metaphor: -A comparison of two unlike things Ex. The pimple on my nose is a volcano ready to erupt.

3 p ) Hyperbole: -A big exaggeration Ex. You can see the pimple on my nose halfway around the world. p ) Idiom: -An expression whose meaning is different from the literal meaning of the words Ex. I'm in a lather about this pimple on my nose.

4 p ) Personification: -Giving human qualities to animals or inanimate objects Ex. The pimple on my nose is screaming for attention. p ) Onomatopoeia: -The word makes the sound being described Ex. Don’t squirt that pimple!

5 p ) Alliteration: -Repetition of a consonant sound Ex. The pesky pimple is annoying. p ) Imagery: -Language that appeals to the five senses. (hearing, touch, taste, sight, smell)
