2 Hymns You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble;
Psalm 32:7 You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Hymns Invitation Red Songbook - Supplemental

3 Re-Examination 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? --unless indeed you are disqualified. Our year began with admonitions towards organization for change. What have you accomplished?

4 Return to Matthew 25 Parable of the Talents: The return of the master = end of the year The master has given you: Time Resources Opportunities Obstacles to overcome

5 Did You Use Your Time? Ephesians 5:15-16 Using your time wisely means: - Did you apportion time for prayer? - Did you make time to know God? Using your time foolishly means: - Focusing on satisfying the flesh - Assuming there is still time ahead Eph 5:15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Jas 4:13 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit"; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that." 16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

6 Did You Use Your Resources?
Parable of the Talents – using differing abilities Distribution of Gifts – 1 Corinthians 12:4-5 Service to our King vs. serving ourselves Luke 12:20-21 1Co 12:4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. Lu 12:20 "But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?' 21 "So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

7 Did You Use Your Opportunities?
To do good – Galatians 6:10 To demonstrate Christ – Colossians 4:5-6 To give an answer – 1 Peter 3:15 Ga 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. Col 4:5 ¶ Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. 1Pe 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;

8 Did You Overcome Your Obstacles?
The importance of tribulation – Acts 14:22 - Struggles are necessary – Hebrews 12:11 The right response vs. the wrong response Bitterness vs. Hope Abandoned hope vs. Stronger faith Ac 14:22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, "We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.“ Heb 12:11 Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

9 Return to Matthew 25 Effort verses Results God judges our efforts, not our results We cannot always perceive results - Job - Elijah - Jonah 1Ki 19:10 So he said, "I have been very zealous for the LORD God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.“ 1Ki 19:18 "Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him Jonah 4:2 So he prayed to the LORD, and said, "Ah, LORD, was not this what I said when I was still in my country? Therefore I fled previously to Tarshish; for I know that You are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from doing harm.

10 Return to Matthew 25 Effort verses Results God judges our efforts, not our results We cannot always perceive results - Job - Elijah - Jonah 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. 1Ki 19:10 So he said, "I have been very zealous for the LORD God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword.
