Goals were fair pay, equal jobs, stop advertising issues, and home life inequality

3. Women’s Rights Successes
1970s the movement gained ground with marches and politics
1972 – Gloria Steinem & Ms. Magazine
Published to contrast other magazines directed at women
Shift in laws and attitudes
Higher education, military, political parties all included more women
Roe v. Wade (1973) – legalized abortion

4. Women’s Rights Opposition
Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) (1972) – equality will not be denied based on sex
Growing conservatism in 1980s caused the amendment to not gain enough votes to be ratified, so it died
Opposition: some men and women, African American women, employers

5. Latinos Goal: create a union for migrant farm workers
Leaders: Cesar Chavez, United Farm Workers (UFW)

6. Asian Americans
Goal: Compensation for property and monetary losses from WWII internment
Eventually given an apology and $20,000

7. Native Americans Goal: Self government and autonomy
Leaders: American Indian Movement (AIM)

Clean Air Act—made cars have catalytic converters to reduce tailpipe pollutants
Clean Water Act—regulates discharge of industrial wastewater and sewage control
