5 ADDIE Model ADDIE ANALYSE DESIGN DEVELOP IMPLEMENT EVALUATE
Once requirements are determined, follow good instructional design - analysing the needs and the audience, planning the structure - before writing the material ANALYSE: well-designed instructional material is thoroughly thought out - audience profile - and objectives defined DESIGN: logical structure helps learners - content outline (flowchart) - course map, storyboard - content and test specs - instructional strategy - interface design DEVELOP : instructional components (content, exercises, tests, evaluation) - elaborate instructional components - build the learning interface - revise, test IMPLEMENT: get your program where it does the most good - test, test, test - Delivery - LMS integration EVALUATE: Did it work? - effectiveness, sufficiency, usability - objectives fulfilled? - trainee’s reaction sheet - skills evaluation - monitor new skills on the job - return on investment (ROI) evaluation Intro to Instructional Design - Project Overview

6 Analyse & Plan user analysis task analysis
determine (performance) objectives develop look&feel designs The aim of the analysis phase is to scope the whole project. It allows you to determine the exact learning solution for the client. Reviewing existing learning deliverables and technologies. User analysis: - get to know for whom you are creating training - through personal interviews or questionnaires on current skills and knowledge, attitude, educational level, learning preferences task analysis: - identify the tasks the learners need to be able to perform, determine priority and levels of knowledge determine performance objectives during the planning phase: HANDOUT: Defining Terminal Objective -> help training design (consistency) -> help people to follow the training -> serve as measures (link solution with defined business problem) Experiment with look & feel - analyse and plan visual aspects - investigate corporate branding (logos, colour schemes, slogans) design and style guidelines Intro to Instructional Design - Project Overview

7 (Re-)design Technical Specification Requirement Specification
Content Specification The design phase covers the analyses required to develop the structure, navigation model and detailed technical specifications of the solution. It also identifies broad branding and corporate design and media expectations. Often from paper to e-learning. Technical specification - appropriate learning management technology/system - SW/HW - file formats - storing issues (LCMS?!) - integration mechanism (with intranet, with HR systems….) Requirement Specification - understand client’s needs -> assess needs - check expectations and demands -> identify objectives - investigate e-learning opportunities - show how objectives are interrelated - identify learner audience - identify basic technical requirements - set main target areas, key success factors and priorities for action Content Specification - adhere to technical platform, SW & HW requirements - take into account delivery logistics and considerations - determine file structure (start file, map file, content modules, other needed files) - develop module navigation structure (structure of main screen, navigation panel) - Specify content (source material, language standards, modules & steps) Intro to Instructional Design - Project Overview

8 Develop draft the learning material draft evaluation components
text video audio draft evaluation components end products storyboards multimedia e-learning components lesson files and quizzes Intro to Instructional Design - Project Overview

9 Implement Integrate to LMS test, test, test Functionality Usability
Effectiveness Accuracy Stress and load testing Implementation - be consistent with using fonts and colors - structure the pages, leave white space - use descriptive names for links and pages - provide transcripts for video files - ensure learners have access to help - eliminate dead-ends Testing = Quality Assurance - functionality - usability - effectiveness - accuracy - stress and load testing of the system Intro to Instructional Design - Project Overview

10 Evaluate keep in mind Critical Success Factors evaluate the product
remember to maintain the product Critical Success Factors - focus on content – continuous updates - focus on technology - enabler (harmonise quality content with the best technical solution) - never-ending propaganda around the solution - carefully selected target group Analyse the training material you can evaluate effectiveness in the actual training environment (LMS) Evaluate the product against users’/client’s/management needs and expectations Maintain the solution with continuous updates: new features/functionalities, new content modules Intro to Instructional Design - Project Overview

11 Systems Approach Model
Identify Instructional Goal: determines what students should be able to do when they have completed the course: TERMINAL OBJECTIVE Should correspond to a business need based on the collected business requirements Conduct Instructional Analysis: analyse goals and identify the subordinate skills/procedural steps that must be followed: CONTENT/TASK ANALYSIS Identify Target Audience: several audiences, user profiles + prerequisite, specific skills that students must have: USER/NEEDS ANALYSIS Write Performance Objectives: specific statements that learners will be able to do when they complete the course: PERF. OBJECTIVES Develop Test Items: based on the objectives, develop parallel test items that measure what is stated in the objectives: TEST ITEMS Develop Instructional Strategy: develop Content Specification: CS Develop Instructional Materials: produce the content of the course: CONTENT Design and Conduct Formative Evaluation: evaluate first draft: one-to-one, small group or field evaluation: REVIEW Revise Instruction: on the basis on formative evaluation, modify your course: CORRECT Conduct Summative Evaluation: evaluation of the absolute or relative value of the course: ROI Intro to Instructional Design - Project Overview

12 Content Development Process
