1 MARKING AND FEEDBACK Our next steps …

2 ‘Ofsted recognises that marking and feedback to pupils, both written oral, are important aspects of assessment. However, Ofsted does not expect to see any specific frequency, type or volume of marking and feedback: these are for the school to decide through its assessment policy. Marking and Feedback should be consistent with that policy, which may cater for different subjects and different age groups of pupils in different ways, in order to be effective and efficient in promoting learning.’ Ofsted Handbook 2015

3 Outstanding Teaching, Learning & Assessment
‘Teachers provide pupils with incisive feedback, in line with the school’s Assessment policy, about what pupils can do to improve their knowledge, understanding and skills. The pupils use this feedback effectively’

4 SIRT (Short Improvement Reflection Time)
WHEN? 2-3 SIRT responses per each PR cycle (including 1 Home Learning) depending on length of PR cycle or curriculum allocation time KEY FEATURES STRs and EBIs have been identified on the piece of work. There is an expectation that students act on the marking e.g. correct spellings/ improve part of the work as identified by the teacher This SIRT response can be done as part of the next lessons Do Now or Home Learning.

5 DIRT (Dedicated Improvement Reflection Time)
WHEN? 1 DIRT response - approximately mid-point or 2/3 way through in a progress Review cycle Provide a working at grade to inform next steps in learning for the student KEY FEATURES Full student response via a DIRT lesson Feedback marking outcomes using the new school template STRs will identify what the student has done well based on the success criteria EBIs will identify the next steps in students learning which will then be their focus in the next stage of learning. Provide ACTION – CHALLENGE –QUESTION from EBIs in Over to you!

11 Marking and Feedback Check list – Student Response
Outstanding Good R.I Inadequate There is clear evidence of dialogue between the teacher and students particularly with venn students. Students respond positively to the teacher’s comments/questions as well as making corrections Students make consistent corrections in response to the teacher’s marking i.e. Dedicated Improvement Reflection Time (DIRT Time) and Short Improvement Reflection Time (SIRT time) therefore showing progress. Students respond but the response is minimal to DIRT and SIRT No ongoing dialogue following STR/EBI. ( Strengths and Even better ifs) Students do not respond to marking There is no evidence of DIRT and SIRT
