5 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 NKJV[6] But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. [7] So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. [8] And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

7 An Important Subject for Our Study
"THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD"

8 Who is the Holy Sprit? What is your concept that you have of Him? Do you feel the HS in your life? Is the Holy Spirit part of the Godhead?

9 Is Mentioned in the Bible.
"Why such a study?" An understanding and appreciation of the Holy Spirit is indeed important, and the purpose of this introductory lesson is to make sure we understand why the H.S: Is Mentioned in the Bible. Works in the Bible. Helps in the Bible.

10 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
"Why such a study?" An understanding and appreciation of the Holy Spirit is indeed important, and the purpose of this introductory lesson is to make sure we understand why the H.S: Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

11 Other expressions referring to the Spirit are used "the Spirit of God"
THE PROMINENCE OF THE SPIRIT IN "THE BIBLE" HIS MENTION IN THE OLD TESTAMENT... The O.T. mentions the Holy Spirit 88 times. 23 books in the O.T. refer to the Holy Spirit Although the actual expression "Holy Spirit" is used only 3 times Psalm 51:11 NKJV[11] Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Other expressions referring to the Spirit are used "the Spirit of God" Genesis 1:2 NKJV[2] The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

12 Only 3 epistles make no mention of the Spirit
HIS MENTION IN THE NEW TESTAMENT The N.T. mentions the Holy Spirit 264 times 60 or more references in the gospels Acts has 57 references (which is why some call it "The Acts Of The Holy Spirit") The epistles refer to the Holy Spirit 132 times Only 3 epistles make no mention of the Spirit (Philemon, 2 & 3 John)

13 THE PROMINENCE OF THE SPIRIT IN "THE LIFE OF CHRIST"
HIS INVOLVEMENT IN THE BIRTH OF JESUS Luke 1:30,35 NKJV[30] Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. [35] And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Matthew 1:20 NKJV[20] But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

14 Elizabeth THE PROMINENCE OF THE SPIRIT IN "THE LIFE OF CHRIST"
HIS INVOLVEMENT IN THE BIRTH OF JESUS Elizabeth Luke 1:41-42 NKJV[41] And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. [42] Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

15 THE PROMINENCE OF THE SPIRIT IN "THE LIFE OF CHRIST"
HIS INVOLVEMENT IN THE BIRTH OF JESUS Zacharias Luke 1:67-69 NKJV[67] Now his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying: [68] "Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited and redeemed His people, [69] And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of His servant David,

16 THE PROMINENCE OF THE SPIRIT IN "THE LIFE OF CHRIST"
HIS INVOLVEMENT IN THE BIRTH OF JESUS Simeon Luke 2:25-27 NKJV[25] And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. [26] And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. [27] So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law,

17 HIS PRESENCE AT THE BAPTISM BY JOHN...
Matthew 3:16 NKJV[16] When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. Luke 3:21-22 NKJV[21] When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. [22] And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased."

18 HIS PRESENCE DURING THE TEMPTATIONS
IN THE WILDERNESS... Luke 4:1 NKJV[1] Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Matthew 4:1 NKJV[1] Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

19 HIS POWER DURING JESUS' MINISTRY...
Luke 10:21 NKJV[21] In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. Luke 4:14-15 NKJV[14] Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. [15] And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. Luke 4:18-19 NKJV[18] "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; [19] To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD."

20 THE PROMINENCE OF THE SPIRIT IN
"THE CHRISTIAN'S LIFE" HIS INVOLVEMENT IN OUR BECOMING CHRISTIANS... We are convicted of sin by the Holy Spirit. We are "born again" of the Spirit We are "renewed" of the Holy Spirit Titus 3:4-6 NKJV[4] But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, [5] not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, [6] whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, John 16:7-8 NKJV[7] Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. [8] And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: John 3:5-8 NKJV[5] Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. [6] That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. [7] Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' [8] The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."

21 Galatians 5:25 NKJV[25] If we live in the Spirit,
HIS PRESENCE IN OUR LIVES AS CHRISTIANS... We "live in the Spirit" Galatians 5:25 NKJV[25] If we live in the Spirit, We are to "walk in the Spirit", producing the "fruit of the Spirit" It is "by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body" Galatians 5:25 NKJV[25] let us also walk in the Spirit. We must set our minds on "the things of the Spirit" Romans 8:12-13 NKJV[12] Therefore, brethren, we are debtors-not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. [13] For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Romans 8:5-6 NKJV[5] For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. [6] For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

22 Only when "led by the Spirit" are we truly the "sons of God"
HIS PRESENCE IN OUR LIVES AS CHRISTIANS... Only when "led by the Spirit" are we truly the "sons of God" Romans 8:14 NKJV[14] For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

23 HIS PRESENCE IN OUR LIVES AS CHRISTIANS...
The Holy Spirit "makes intercession for us" in our prayers Romans 8:26-27 NKJV[26] Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. [27] Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

24 HIS PRESENCE IN OUR LIVES AS CHRISTIANS...
God strengthens us "with might through His Spirit" in the inner man. Ephesians 3:16 NKJV[16] that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,

25 HIS PRESENCE IN OUR LIVES AS CHRISTIANS...
Thus we can enjoy the "communion (fellowship) of the Spirit" 2 Corinthians 13:14 NKJV[14] The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. Philippians 2:1 NKJV[1] Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy,

26 THE PROMINENCE OF THE SPIRIT REGARDING
"TRUTH AND ERROR" HE IS THE SOURCE OF GOD'S TRUTH... The Author 2 Peter 1:20-21 NKJV[20] knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, [21] for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

27 THE PROMINENCE OF THE SPIRIT REGARDING
"TRUTH AND ERROR" HE IS THE SOURCE OF GOD'S TRUTH... The Guide. John 14:25-26 NKJV[25] "These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. [26] But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

28 THE PROMINENCE OF THE SPIRIT REGARDING
"TRUTH AND ERROR" HE IS THE SOURCE OF GOD'S TRUTH... The revealer. 1 Corinthians 2:10-13 NKJV[10] But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. [11] For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. [12] Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. [13] These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

29 Many people misunderstand:
HE IS THE SUBJECT OF MUCH ERROR... Much error is taught about the nature of the Holy Spirit Some think He is an impersonal force expressive of God's Power Others think He is really Jesus in another form. Many people misunderstand: The baptism of the Holy Spirit. The gift of the Holy Spirit. The spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit

30 Is it important to study
about the H.S? Why? Because otherwise you will not understand Acts 2:38.
