5 Why bonn? Excellency Cluster “ECONtribute”
„ECONtribute: Markets & Public Policy“ (University of Bonn/University of Cologne) is the only economic proposal to be funded by the German Excellency Strategy aims to explore new possibilities for shaping and regulating markets in the face of new challenges such as global financial crises, an increasing inequality or the ongoing digitization research goes beyond traditional analyses of economic policy by combining theoretical models and empirical economic research with findings from the behavioral sciences, law, and political sciences funded for 7 years 01/01/2019 – 12/31/2025 (with a possible extension of 7 years), budget: 3-10 mio € annually Orientation Session / Dr. Sabine Hübner-Monien

6 Aims and Objectives of the Master in Economics
A comprehensive two year research-oriented program that aims to produce highly skilled economists special emphasis is put on mathematical, statistical and econometric methods to prepare students for further academic studies or positions where strong quantitative skills are needed. Students may choose courses from up to four different fields of study to allow them to specialize in the fields that they desire. M.Sc students are even offered the unique possibility to attend selected Ph.D. level courses as part of their Masters‘ degree. Orientation Session / Dr. Sabine Hübner-Monien

Program Structure The Master program includes basic and advanced modules, and a so-called research module 1. semester: basic modules cover the basics of economics and methodology 2. and 3. semester: advanced modules involve a more in-depth study of at least two or up to four study areas 3. semester: advanced modules and research module, a research seminar which focuses on designing research projects The 4. semester is reserved for the writing of the Master’s thesis Orientation Session / Dr. Sabine Hübner-Monien

Advanced modules Are taken in the second and third semester – some can only be taken if the corresponding basic module was passed successful (see list below) Students can either focus on 2 study areas (narrow focus) or choose to select up to 4 study areas (broad focus). Offered in all study areas (except Economic Research) and serve as preparation for writing the Master thesis Focus is on research methods. Registration for exams can be cancelled online through Basis during the registration period Students are required to check whether their registrations and cancellations have been registered correctly. Changes will not be possible after the registration/cancellation deadline To be able to prove that you have registered for an exam or withdrawn from an exam, please print or save the pdf-file that lists all exam registrations If you want to take exams form the Research Master, you will not be able to register online. 31 Withdrawing from an examination because of Illness
