1 VOLLEYBALL

2 ORIGINS In 1895, William G. Morgan, a PE teacher from the USA (Massachusetts), created Volleyball when he was looking for a sport with no physical contact. At the beginning it was played on a tennis court and the net wasn’t as high as nowadays

3 THE AIM OF THE GAME Volleyball is a sport played by two teams in a court separated by a net The main aim of the game is to send the ball over the net, onto the opponent’s side of the court.

4 THE COURT The court is rectangular and measures 18X9 metres.
The court is divided in two squares by a net and each team play in their square court 9X9 metres. The net is 2.43 metres high for adult men and 2.24 metres high for females. (In the category of cadets (3rd and 4th grades) 2.37 and 2.18).

5 The playing court

6 PLAYERS AND ROTATION There are two teams, one on each side of the net, six players on each team. Three players are in front at the net positions and three in the backcourt position. Each player must move position clockwise every time their team wins back service from opposition (rotation).

7 ROTATION SYSTEM

8 SCORING Rally Point System (There will be a point scored on every rally) The team that first scores 25 points wins the set. A 2-point difference is needed (If there’s a draw 24-24, they will have to play to 26). The team that gets three sets wins the match.

9 THE MOST IMPORTANT RULES OF THE GAME
Each team is allowed as many as three consecutive touches and a player may not hit the ball twice in succession (A block is not considered a hit) You must hit the ball; keeping it (sticking) is considered a fault. Players cannot cross the line of the opposing team’s court (invasion), nor can they touch the net If the ball touches the net it is not a fault and you must continue playing (the same rule when serving)

10 THE MOST IMPORTANT RULES OF THE GAME
One team will score a point : By grounding the ball on the other team's court. When the opposing team commits a fault If a team doesn’t rotate when needed, it will be a fault and they will lose the point You serve the ball from behind the back boundary line of the court. You can’t block the serve

11 THE MOST IMPORTANT RULES OF THE GAME
There’s only one serve (there is never a second chance). The backcourt player on the right serves (the one in position 1) The court’s lines, inside the court, are considered to be good

12 TIPS TO PLAY BETTER Help your team members Use three hits
Ask for the ball (say ME!!) Attitude towards the ball: You should really WANT to play. Don’t stay far or away from the ball, don’t be afraid of the ball!!
