Study of Application of Upper Legform to TRT/Lower Threshold Deployment Impactor Test - Update draft - IWG-DPPS 4th meeting, Mar. 2019 Japan Automobile Standards Internationalization Center (JASIC)

2 Objective To clarify whether upper legform impactor can be used for the deployment test at the lower threshold velocity Approach Clarify Impact speed at which HTD at the lower threshold velocity of deployment can be represented by upper legform impactor

3 Methodology HBM impact simulation Upper legform impact simulation Impact speed: varied from 10 to 30km/h HBM: C6Y, AF05, AM50, AM95 Impact speed: varied from 2.5 to 30km/h Identify HTD from the peak of sensing parameter for each of impact speeds considering variation of lower threshold Identify relationship between peak of sensing parameter and impact speed Peak of sensing parameter Impact speed Equivalent impact speed of upper legform is estimated from the peak value in HBM and relationship between peak value and impact speed of upper legform

4 Simulation Condition HBM: 6YO, 5th Female, 50th male and 95th male
Car: Three real car models representing a sedan, minivan and SUV Impact speed to HBM: 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 km/h Impact location of HBM: lateral position of knee joint is located to the car center Mass of upper legform: 9.5 kg (same as UN R-127) Impact speed of upper legform: 2.5, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 km/h Impact direction of upper legform: longitudinal direction of car Impact location of upper legform (lateral position): car center Impact location of upper legform (height): center of bumper reinforcement Sensing parameter: contact force, bumper deflection and velocity change

5 Measuring point of bumper deflection and velocity change
Simulation Model 6 YO 5th Female 50th male 95th male Upper legform Measuring point of bumper deflection and velocity change (surface of bumper, car center and center height of bumper reinforcement)
