1. BOX #1 – D – Describe the document
What is the title? Who is the author? Who is the audience? What is the date of the document?
BOX #2 – E – Explain the event and S – State the unit
What event is happening at the time of letter? What unit is being learned?
BOXES #3 – C – Comb the unique features and new vocabulary
ANNOTATE! Take notes, write down interesting facts, underline/highlight new vocabulary and learn their definitions, etc.
BOXES #4 – R – Read, and ask 3 questions, such as “what does this statement mean?” and I – Indicate your 3 responses in the appropriate boxes
Ask questions about the document (use text evidence!), discuss with your group, and hypothesize answers
BOX #5 – B – Bring it all together and E – Examine findings
Summarize the main ideas in 2 or 3 complete sentences of the purpose and intent of the document
