2 Carbohydrates 2 types of carbs
simple and complex (simple sugars and starches) Povide energy for the body called organic compound because it has carbon Fancy way of saying ‘sugar’ Fruit, veggies, dairy, grain, etc. has carbs

3 Fats 3 types Saturated fat (meat, dairy, etc.)
Unsaturated fat (plant foods and fish) Trans fat (magarine, snack foods, etc) helps people feel satisfied for longer Only difference between oil and fat is if its solid at room temp. 9 calories/gram Dairy, meat, nuts, etc.

4 Protein 1 general type Build and maintains body tissues
Muscles, organs, and immune system are made of proteins Protects you from disease Hair and nails are made of proteins Meat, fish, etc.

5 Fibre Lots of ways to categorize Source of non-digestible carb
Soluble fibre (partially dissolves in water) Insoluble fibre (doesn’t dissolve in water) Source of non-digestible carb High fibre diets control blood sugar level People lose weight easier with more fibre Fruits, veggie, grains, and beans

6 Vitamins 13 different types A, 8 B vitamins, C, D, E, K
Living things need vitamins Not a source of calories Don’t contribute to body mass Fruits and veggies have vitamins

7 Minerals 8 types Calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, sodium, zinc Regulates body processes and developments Inorganic substances Meat, fruits, veggies, nuts, etc.

8 Water Many different types Spring, mineral, fresh, etc.
Removes dangerous toxins Your body is about 70% water All foods contain water
