2 Food! Yum  What foods are countable and uncountable?
What foods do you like? -Lasagna -guacamole crepes tacos kebabs pancakes students put the foods into countable & uncountable categories – I tell them to look for “plural” nouns (i.e. nouns that end with “s”). Countable: tacos, crepes, kebabs, pancakes, cheese burgers, steak, strawberries Uncountable: guacamole, lasagna, spaghetti, cereal, ice cream, curry, chicken & asparagus Cheese burgers Chocolate chip cookies Strawberries -Spaghetti -Indian curry -Ice cream -Grilled chicken & asparagus -cereal

3 Count and Non-count Nouns
“Count” = we can count. Usually we use “a” for one item. When more than 1 item, we use the plural form = (s) I have a dog. / I have two dogs. He has a pen. / He has three pens. I would like a banana. / I would like two bananas. “Non-count” nouns cannot be counted. Liquids, meats and items of “many” are non-count Examples: rice, soda, chicken We count quantity(양) by using “a little”, “some” or “a lot of” DO NOT add “s” to the end of the noun. There is some milk left. We don’t have a lot of rice. I want a little chicken. You cannot have “1” of a non-count item. P. 47-3

4 Count or Non-count GAP fill:
