2 Catalyst Describe a time you were around someone on a power trip or someone who was just plain bossy! 1. How were they behaving? 2. How did it make you feel? 3. How could you stop this person?

3 Separation of Powers The distribution of power and authority among the 3 branches of government.

We wanted to make sure that our government did not become too strong and powerful like King George!

Structure: Bicameral (2 house) Congress Senate House of Represenatatives (Equal Representation) (Population) And Agencies that help Congress.

8 Article II: Executive Branch
Structure: President Vice President Cabinet Other agencies that help

9 Article II: Executive Branch
Powers: * Proposes laws to Congress *Can approve or veto laws *Carries out the laws *Appoints federal court judges

10 Article III: Judicial Branch
Structure: Supreme Court Federal Courts

11 Article III: Judicial Branch
Powers: *Interprets the meaning of the laws *Review decisions made in lower courts *Decides if laws made by Congress are Constitutional
