3 Greeting If you know the name of the person you are writing to, use:
Dear Mr. / Mrs. Cohen, If you don’t know the person’s name, use: Dear Sir, Do not use: Hello! Do not indent the greeting. Don’t forget the comma!

4 State your reason for writing
First Paragraph State your reason for writing I wish to complain about the service that I received at your restaurant. I would like to apply for the job of camp counselor that was advertised in Sunday’s newspaper. I saw your advertisement in the newspaper and I am writing to request further information about the services you offer.

5 The body of your letter. Be sure to use formal language.
Second and Third Paragraphs The body of your letter. Be sure to use formal language.

6 Fourth Paragraph Write a final sentence or sentences to sum up and / or to ask for a reply. In conclusion, I would appreciate… I have enclosed… I look forward to your reply.

7 Closing Use: Sincerely, Yours truly, Sincerely yours, Do NOT use:
Love, Your friend, Bye!
