1 How to complete the Outline

2 Introduction Hook: statement that gets the reader’s attention
Quote from the story Fact about the author Thesis: What the paper is about 1 sentence Says what you are critiquing Ex. Agatha Christie utilizes foreshadowing and irony in “The Witness for the Prosecution” to keep the reader guessing.

3 Author Information At least three interesting facts we need to know about the author to get a deeper understanding of the story. What influenced them? What did they experience that relates to the narrative?

4 Criticisms Each of these two or three paragraphs will talk about one of the literary tools from the Short Story Analysis Sheet Discuss how that tool enhanced or negatively affected the narrative or the reader. Irony added humor… Metaphors helped the reader visualize the events or related a difficult topic to the more familiar… Theme allowed many people to relate to an unusual idea and learn from it… Personification confused and distracted the reader…. Two examples in each paragraph (minimal) One can be a quote that shows the tool in the story One can be a quote from a source that supports your criticism
