Creating an Outline When you write you have to think like a reader. This means that You MUST be logical in your progression of ideas, You MUST be organized, You Must provide a thesis statement You MUST provide a conclusion that brings together the overall purpose of your essay (thesis) and the “take away” Why? Because YOU expect these things from an author, so YOU need to provide these as well.
Basic Outline Format I.Introduction II.Body Paragraph 1 III.Body Paragraph 2 IV.Body Paragraph 3 V.Conclusion Attention “grabber,” transition sentence, and thesis statement. Topic sentence: What is it? Details: What does it look like? Closing: Why is it important? Revisit the thesis and offer a “take away” to the reader. Overall, why is the TOPIC Important?
