2 WHAT IS MATTER? MATTER MAKES UP EVERYTHING, FROM THE AIR WE BREATHE TO THE PLANET WE LIVE ON. What are examples of matter? Water, sand, glass, iron, cooking oil, mist, oxygen

3 IF MATTER MAKES UP EVERYTHING THEN WHAT MAKES UP MATTER?
Matter is made up of extremely small particles called Atoms are the basic building blocks of matter and therefore life. Atoms can only seen by very powerful microscopes. Atoms can be found alone or in groups called molecules. By joining together molecules can form large networks called lattices and crystals. ATOMS.

4 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF MATTER
All the properties of matter that do not involve chemical reactions. State – solid, liquid or gas. Colour e.g. ice is transparent. Temperature – how hot or cold is a substance.

5 Volume – amount of space the substance takes up.
Conductivity – ability to conduct electricity or heat. Volume – amount of space the substance takes up. Density – mass per unit volume of a substance. Mass – amount of matter in an object.

6 Melting Point – temperature at which a heated solid melts into a liquid.
Freezing Point – temperature at which a cooling liquid turns into a solid. Boiling Point – temperature at which a liquid turns into a gas by boiling.
