Complication/rising action – the character meets a problem Climax – the key scene in a story, the most exciting part Resolution – Struggles are over, problem solved

6 TIMING Chronological order – the order in which events unfold in real time Flashback – an interruption in the flow of events that presents an episode from the past Flash-forward – an interruption that jumps ahead Foreshadowing – hints or clues that suggest what is coming next
