Is there a task, event, object, or something else that has two names? One a positive name and one a negative name for the same thing? Why do they have two names?

3 The Intolerable Acts After the Boston Tea party, King George the III said, “We must master them or totally leave them to themselves and treat them as aliens.” Britain tries to “master” the colonies Britain passed the Coercive Acts to punish the colonists, the colonists called them the “Intolerable Acts.” Closed the Harbor of Boston Forced to House troops

4 The First Continental Congress Meets
Delegates from every state, except Georgia, met in Philadelphia to discuss the Intolerable Acts Voted to ban all trade with Britain until Intolerable Acts were repealed Told each colony to start training soldiers Planted the seed for America’s own government

6 Midnight Ride British and American spy networks were watching one another British found out that Americans had weapons in Concord and that Sam Adams and John Hancock were hiding out in Lexington Paul Revere, a colonist spy watching British troop movement Paul Revere’s signal One if by land, two if by sea Paul Revere and William Dawes rode across the countryside in their “Midnight Ride” warning the colonists that the “British were coming.”

7 Lexington and Concord April 19, 1775, “The Shot Heard ‘Round the World” 700 British troops stood up to 70 colonists and ordered them to drop their weapons at Lexington The colonists refused and gun fire started The British marched to Concord, they were met by 4,000 colonial minutemen Lexington and Concord became the first battles of the Revolutionary War Americans who supported the British were known as Loyalists Americans who supported the colonies (the rebels) were known as Patriots
