2 Soliloquy – Speaking one’s thoughts aloud when alone regardless of any listeners, esp. by a character in a play.

3 2. Aside – a remark by a character in a play that is intended to be heard by the audience but unheard by the other characters in the play.

4 3. Monologue – a lengthy speech by one actor in a play or movie.

5 4. Dramatic Irony – irony that occurs when the meaning of the situation is understood by the audience but not by the characters in the play.

EX. a little big, act naturally, pretty ugly, living dead.

10 9. Character Foil - a character who contrasts with another character(usually the protagonist) in order to highlight particular qualities of the other character.

11 10. Paradox - something (such as a situation) that is made up of two opposite things that may seem impossible but is actually true or possible. EX. Nobody goes to that restaurant because it is too crowded. If you get this message, call me; if you don’t, then don’t worry about it.
