3 What is Bullying? Bullying is defined by the American Psychological Association as an aggressive behavior that is intended to cause distress or harm, and that involves an imbalance of power or strength between the aggressor and the victim Bullying can consist of a single interaction or multiple instances. Bullying behavior may also be defined as a criminal act if the bully is twelve years of age or older.

4 Bullying Terms Bystanders—those who watch bullying happen or hear about it Bully Victim – Someone who is repeatedly subject to physical or verbal, intimidating/threatening abuse from a peer Bully – The person carrying out the acts of physical or verbal abuse Lead in with a discussion around if anyone has heard of cyber bullying Show video after this slide

5 Understanding Cyberbullying
What is cyberbullying, exactly? "Cyberbullying" is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones

6 Warm Up 9/12 Handling Bullying What would you do if some felt threatened, harmed, or uncomfortable around a classmate at school? Have a conversation about reporting. Why do some students not report?? Move to slide about snitching vs reporting.

8 Snitching vs. Reporting
The goal/motive of snitching is to get someone in trouble. The goal of reporting is to help someone in distress

Where? Where did it happen? When? When did it happen?
