IT IS THE FOUNDATION OF ALL RELATIONSHIPS “A relationship is only as good as its’ communication!”

We Need: To find out about the world we live in To know how to interpret our experiences To release tension To find out about other people To know how to get information from others To know how to let others know what’s going on inside us.

10 When people talk, six possible messages get through:

11 MESSAGE SENDER RECEIVER
In any given situation, there are three parts to the communication process: SENDER RECEIVER MESSAGE

12 EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION exists between two people when the RECEIVER interprets the SENDER’s message the way the sender INTENDED. How does this happen? BY ASKING QUESTIONS!

14 COMMUNICATION NOTES – Part II LISTENING – According to Stephen Covey, when another person speaks we are usually “listening” at one of four levels: * IGNORING – not really listening at all * PRETENDING – “yeah, uh-huh, right?” * SELECTIVE LISTENING – hearing only certain parts of the conversation * ATTENTIVE LISTENING – paying attention and focusing energy on the words that are being said.
