1 Global Classrooms Project
Position Paper Global Classrooms Project Information derived from “Global Classrooms September Jornada” by Rachel Hunkler and Russel Quinones

2 Position Papers Walk your students thru step-by-step and help them to REMAIN CALM. This is definitely intimidating for them!

3 Position Papers: What is it?
1 to 1.5 pages in length Gives facts about country and the topic Includes proposals for resolutions (Students’ ideas of what should be done in the future) Resolutions are actions for ALL countries, not just one student’s country Can be used later to write Opening Speeches

4 Before the writing: Research (Next Week)

6 PP Paragraph Breakdown
Introduction Domestic Action International Action & Collaboration Future Resolutions Conclusion

7 1. Introduction Introduce the topic and give background information.
How does the issue affect your country OR countries similar to yours? Be sure to skew it to your country’s position. Example: If you have an underdeveloped country, be sure to specifically discuss how Loan Forgiveness affects underdeveloped countries.

8 2. Domestic Action Past policies and actions related to the issue in your country. Be sure to mention both WHY and WHAT happened. Current situation and actions in your country. Statistics and quotes to back up your country’s position.

9 3. International Action & Collaboration
Past resolutions and agreements that your country took part in. Current global issues related to your topic.

10 4. Future Resolutions This is what your country believes should be done about the issue. Focus on working together with other countries/organizations. Actions must focus on all countries, not only your country’s specific needs. Give at least TWO proposals for future actions to solve the problem. What, Who, When, How Give details and be creative!

11 5. Conclusion The opposite of an introduction.
Summarize your country’s position. “Tell em what you told em.” The format used in Position Papers will later be used (in a more summarized version) to write Opening Speeches
