2 Objective Students will gain a better understanding of what an autobiographical narrative is. They will be required to write their own 5 paragraph autobiographical narrative. Standards:

3 Autobioraphical Narrative What is an autobiographical Narrative? Autobiographical narratives are stories about events in your own life. Whenever you describe something that happened to you, such as overcoming a problem or challenge, you are telling an autobiographical narrative. ©Edge Book

5 Autobiographical Narratives You probably tell autobiographical narratives often. You might tell classmates what you did over the weekend. You might trade stories with your family about your day. This project builds on your personal storytelling skills. ©Edge Book

6 Things to remember Remember that you are not writing just for yourself. Because other people will read your narrative, be sure to adapt your voice to suit the expectations of your audience. For example, you would probably use a more informal voice if writing for elementary school students than you would if writing for a college admissions board ©Edge Book

8 Autobiographical Narrative Tells what happen in logical order Use precise language, sensory details, and dialogue ©Edge Book

9 Format Beginning Start with an interesting background that identifies the obstacle, problem, or challenge that you face. In other words, establish the main point, or controlling idea, of your narrative. Introduce the people, setting, and situation. State why this event was important. This will be your introduction paragraph. ©Edge Book

10 Format Middle Give details about what happened in the order that it happened. Share your thoughts and feelings. Use lively details and dialogue Your body paragraphs ©Edge Book

11 Format End Explain how the action came to an end or the the problem was solved. Summarized why the event or experienced was important. Conclusion ©Edge Book
