Puberty: the time during which hormones start the process of developing sexual characteristics.
Sexual Reproduction: how the human species pass on genetic information to each generation.

Fertilization: union of male (sperm) and female (ovum) gametes (each with a single, haploid set of chromosomes) to produce a diploid zygote.

Female Reproductive System: purpose is to produce ova (eggs) and provide a place for the fetus to develop.

Uterus: where the fertilized eggs develop. Cervix: the lower end of the uterus. Fallopian Tube (oviduct): leads from ovary to uterus; where the egg cell can be fertilized. Ovaries: pair of organs where eggs are produced during meiosis.

Vagina: tube leading from cervix to external female genitalia; where sperm enters.
Estrogen: the female hormone responsible for developing female sexual characteristics, helping egg cells develop before leaving ovaries, and preparing uterus for pregnancy.
