2 Scientific Measurements • Scientists compare and analyze each other’s measurements • Use the International System of Units, or SI Distance • SI unit = meter (m) • Other measures are millimeters (mm), centimeters (cm), & kilometers(km)

3 Volume • The amount of space occupied by an object • Regular solids (cube, block) SI unit = cm3 • Liquid Volumes SI unit = milliliters (mL) Use graduated cyclinder • Conversion between solid volume and liquid volume 1 cm3 = 1 mL

4 Mass • Amount of matter in an object • SI unit = gram (g) • Mass is measured using Balances Density • Amount of matter that occupies a given space • SI unit = g/cm3 or g/mL Temperature • SI unit = °C (Celsius)
