2 Meaning of the symbol Symbol Function Fragile The contents of the package are fragile and must be handled with care. Use no hooks Hooks must be used when handling this package.

3 Meaning of the symbol Symbol Function Top This indicates the correct, upright position of the package. Keep away from heat The package should be protected from heat.

4 Protect from radioactive sources
Meaning of the symbol Symbol Function Protect from radioactive sources The contents of the package can be degraded or rendered useless as a result of radioactivity. Keep dry The package must be kept in a dry environment.

5 Meaning of the symbol Symbol Function Center of gravity This indicates the center of gravity of a package that is to be handled as a single unit. Do not roll The package must not be rolled.

6 Do not use forklift truck here
Meaning of the symbol Symbol Function No hand truck here Hand trucks must not be used on this side to handle the package. Do not use forklift truck here The package must not be handled using forklift trucks.

7 Meaning of the symbol Symbol Function Clamp here Clamps must be applied to the sides indicated to handle the package. Do not clamp here Clamps must not be applied to the sides indicated to handle the package.

Meaning of the symbol Symbol Function Stacking weight limitation This indicates the maximum stacking load for packages. Stacking limitation This indicates maximum number of packages that may be stacked, where n stands for the number of permitted packages.

9 Meaning of the symbol Symbol Function Do not stack Stacking of the packages is not permitted and loads should not be placed on the package. Sling here Slinging equipment must be applied as shown in order to lift the package.

Meaning of the symbol Symbol Function Permitted temperature range This indicates the temperature range within which the package must be stored and handled. Electrostatic sensitive device Contact with packages bearing this symbol should be avoided at low levels of relative humidity, especially if insulating footwear is being worn or the ground/floor is nonconductive. Low levels of relative humidity must be expected on hot, dry summer days and very cold winter days.

A barrier layer, which is impermeable to water vapor and contains desiccants for corrosion protection, is located beneath the outer packaging. This protection will be ineffective if the barrier layer is damaged.  Tear/ Open here This symbol is intended only for the recipient.

16 Sample I A: Do you know this symbol? B: Of course, it means “Keep dry”. It is usually used to inform that the packages must be kept in a dry environment. A: What about this one? B: It means “Keep away from cold”. It indicates that the contents in the packages need to be protected from cold.
