4 About Neon Neon is a Non-metal. It is a part of Group 18. Because it is a Noble Gas it is colorless and odorless. In Nature, you cannot see it and it is rare on the Earth. Neon is not known to be toxic.

5 History Of Neon Neon was discovered in 1898 by William Ramsay and Morris Travers while they were conducting experiments with liquid air. The name comes from the Greek name Neon meaning new. Neon gets its symbol because nitrogens symbol is N therefore, the symbol is the first two letters, Ne.

6 Physical and Chemical Properties Neon is a gas. Its melting point is -248.59*c. Its boiling point is -246.08*c. Because Neon is a Noble gas it is very stable. It does not react with other elements. Also its outer electron shell is full.

7 Uses of Neon Neon is used for lighting. To examples are neon lamps and advertising signs. Neon also functions in high-voltage indicators, lightning arrestors, wave meter tubes, and TV tubes. There are no compounds that I could find that contain Neon besides what is above this.
