In prison he writes Mein Kampf
Germans are the master race
Dictatorship only form of good government
Christianity invented by Jews to make cowards of the “master race”
Planned for Third Reich
German greatness to last for 1000 years

Democratic government is weak
Hitler provides a scapegoat for German problems: Jews
Hitler appeals to the masses
very charismatic
the unemployed & downtrodden believed him
Removes anyone suspected of not following his ideology

German, Austrian, Polish, Czechoslovakian
Sudetenland taken (border of Czechoslovakia & Germany)
Czechs mobilize and expect help from France & England
Help never comes; France & England don’t want to go to war to save Czechoslovakia

Germany given part of Czechoslovakia in return for halt of further aggression
Had Britain & France objected Hitler would have been removed
Hitler takes rest of Czechoslovakia

Russia gets Finland, Estonia, Latvia, eastern Poland, Lithuania
provides “buffer zone” from German attack
