1 Higher National 6 Badminton
Skilled Performance/Model Performer

2 Skilled Performance What makes a skilful performance and performer?

3 Skilled Performance A skilled performance is made up of a number of key components from the four factors impacting on performance: Physical Mental Emotional Social

4 Badminton example... A skilled performance involves: 1. Physical
Simple and complex skills Linking skills Movement Tactics 2. Mental Personal Qualities Information-processing 3. Emotional Managing emotions 4. Social Etiquette

5 Simple and Complex Skills
A skilled player will be proficient (able) to perform the full range of strokes in badminton. These shots will be played with control and fluency and will be highly effective and consistent. A skilled player shows a high level of performance in the more complex rally winning shots, such as the smash and drop shot, as well as more simple shots such as the high serve and overhead clear

6 Linking Skills As well as being able to perform individual skills, a skilled performer will link strokes together to put the maximum pressure on their opponent. This will create attacking openings in a match. The ability to select the most effective shot at the crucial time is a major part of a skilled performance.

7 Movement A skilled performer will demonstrate a quality of movement that is economical and efficient, throughout the whole match. Movement is agile and quick, both towards the shuttle and in recovery to base on the court. Able to perform skills while moving a full pace. This is helped by good anticipation and quick reactions.

8 Tactics A skilled performer is able to implement tactics to take advantage of, their strengths, as well as their opponents weaknesses. By moving their opponent around the court and playing a high percentage of shots towards their weaker shot a skilled performer is able to control the majority of points. Tactics should also be adaptable during matches.

9 Personal Qualities A skill performer will also demonstrate a number of key personal qualities such as; Creativity Concentration Motivation Determination Where two players abilities are closely matched a skilled performer will rely on these personal qualities.

10 Information-processing
A skilled performer is able to easily make quick and effective decisions based on the input received from the senses. They are then able to move and respond to the decisions made and will then use the feedback from their performance to inform their next decision.

11 Managing Emotions The ability to manage emotions is highly important, especially for the high pressure points in each match. This will allow the performer to focus on their performance. Controlling anger and excitement will also help to regulate energy levels.

12 Etiquette Etiquette (unwritten rules) an informal code of conduct that says how a team or player should behave. These rules recognise the importance of co-operation, showing respect, and consideration for others. Performers who fail to follow the code are said to be unsporting. For example – In badminton and many other activities it ends with players shaking hands at the end of the game. Also In rugby, players line up to clap the opposition off of the park. If a player is injured during a football match, it is common to see the ball put out of play by the opposition.

13 Model Performer A model performer/performance is one of excellence
Model performance can be used to: Identify strengths and weaknesses Compare to your own performance Increase confidence and motivation Provide challenge in practice/competition You can see the ultimate performance/skill of what you are aiming for. Inspire to achieve higher levels of achievement Support planning practice/targets Inspire to copy ideas

14 FIP 1.2 Evaluating the impact of positive and negative factors on a performance. Identify a positive impact within your performance and include evidence to support your answer Identify a negative impact within your performance and include evidence to support your answer. Must do for both Physical and Mental

15 FIP 1.2 Structure Name the area e.g. The area that has a positive impact on my performance is the physical skill Agility. Why do you need this? E.g. Agility is required during badminton because….. Back this up with evidence from your data collection e.g. From my Stroke Repertoire sheet I can see that 93% (28 out of 30 shots) of my Over Head Clears were played very effectively. This tells me I was well balanced when I played this shot meaning I must have been agile enough to be in the correct position of the court to play it at the time.

16 FIP 1.2 Structure This is also shown in my PAR sheet as 95% of the time I tracked back and had my weight on my back foot during the preparation phase of the shot. During the recovery phase I returned to the base line 97% of the time. Impact on performance.
