3. My Goals To achieve high outcomes of learning for your child.
Prepare your child to exceed expectations in academics.
To provide a safe, supportive and fun classroom environment for student learning.

4. Class Subjects IB Instructional Methodology is used to deliver:
Reading/Language Arts, and Writing
Math
Science
Social Studies
Spanish
Health/Physical Education
Music and Art

5. Reading/Language Arts
This year we will be using the Benchmark for Literacy Reading program.
We will use Benchmark for Literacy to teach, Language Arts skills.
There will be a Spelling and Comprehension Assessment on Friday

6. Writing We will learn correct letter formation.
We will use the Benchmark Writer’s Workshop.
Performance Tests every 9-weeks

7. Math
We will be using Envision Math and Teaching Student-centered Math.
We will study Counting Number Sense, Graphs, Addition, Subtraction, Problem-solving, Geometry, Algebra, Patterns, Non-standard measurement, Money, Fractions, Calendar, and Time.

8. Assessment
We will assess student Reading proficiency using the IReady Online.
Math proficiency will be assessed using IReady Online.
Students will also be administered Performance Assessments at the end of the nine(9) week learning period.

9. Science We will be using Harcourt Science.
We will study subjects like Animals, Characteristics of Science, Weather & Seasons, Plants & Water Cycle, Magnets, Sound, Light & Shadows.

10. Social Studies
We will be studying Houghton-Mifflin-Harcourt Social studies.
We will cover subjects like History, Famous Americans, Economics, Natural Resources, Current Events, and Other cultures.

11. Foreign Language
We will have the opportunity to learn Spanish for half an hour Four days each week with Mrs. Marta Goodson

12. PE, Music and Art We will go to Mrs. Britton for Music.
We will go to Mrs. Coleman for Art.
We will go to Mr. Barnett for PE. Students must wear appropriate shoes (sneakers) for PE.

13. Classroom Community
Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have to cooperate with each other.
Our class Essential Agreements are:
We will respect others and their property.
We will follow directions.
We will raise our hands.
We will work quietly.
We use Routines and Rituals to accomplish everything else in our class.
We will use Categories to monitor student behavior (RED) at the end of the day. (minus 5 pts)

14. Homework
Homework calendar will be sent home in the Parent /Teacher communication folder for each week. The Spelling words are in the Sunday block for the week.
The ELA weekly homework is on the Weekly HW sheet.
Math homework is on the Calendar. Please help your child complete the assigned sheet for the day.

15. Transportation
If you make a change in your child’s transportation plan, Please put it in writing.
If you pick your child up early please remember to sign them out in the Front Office.

16. Tardiness School starts at 8:15 A.M.
If you aren’t in the classroom by the time the second bell rings, (8:15 A.M) please check in at the school office before coming to class.
If you are tardy ten (11) times, that will equal one absence.

17. Field Trips We have some fun field trips planned for this year!
We may attend the Zoo in support of IB and the Benchmark Literacy program. Stay tuned for more on that later.
The Augusta Canal (Science related)
We will attempt to visit Davidson School of Fine Arts to attend additional productions in support of IB, and Social Studies.

18. Additional Items
AR, 12 books per 9 weeks- except for the 1st 9 weeks. Test Grade average must be 80 or above.
STAR test will be administered to determine your child’s initial Lexile reading level.
We have ordered the Scholastic Reader to support instruction
