Novel Studies First, open your SpringBoard textbook to page 104. Did you cite your text evidence? Meaning, did you put the page number next to each item in each box in which you found that answer? If not, go back and write the page number associated with the answers you wrote in the chart. (Ex.: p. 7) Quiz tomorrow on verbs. Examples of what to expect: Books (is, are, am) my absolute favorite. Jacob (is, are, am) a very kind person.

Essential Questions: How can talking and working with others help one analyze a novel? How do internal and external forces help people grow? Standard: ELASE6RL1 – Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. Learning Targets: Identify claims. Elect your position on these claims. Support your claim with logical reasoning and relevant evidence.

Novel Studies 3rd/6th – “Maniac Magee” – Ch. 8 (p. 28) As we read, have your double-entry journal (p. 109) out and be ready to write down the page number of a passage that stands out to you. You can come back and write the passage down later, as long as you know which page to revisit. If you need additional double-entry pages, they are available on the front table. Add them beginning on page 111 and continue in order (pages 112, 113, 114, etc.).

Double-Entry Journals First, open your Springboard text to page 101. Look at the bullet points under question #2. Have you written your responses like this? If not, refer to this page to help you. Then, look at the example. It may not be for your novel, but you can see the amount and quality of writing you should write each time. Remember to utilize your sentence starters on page 110 of your I.A.N. You will be scored on these double-entry journals on Wednesdays and Fridays. Keep your rubric in your reading portfolio folder.

Double-Entry Journals Draw a line under your last double-entry journal. You should start your FOURTH entry today. Use your “Sentence Starters for Reader Response” on page 110 of your I.A.N. to help you with the personal response portion of your double—entry journals. If you need additional double-entry pages, they are available on the front table. Add them beginning on page 111 and continue in order (pages 112, 113, 114, etc.). You will be scored on these double-entry journals on Wednesdays and Fridays.

9 Language Arts – Closing Session 01/29/18
Novel Studies – Literature Circles Complete work on your role based on what we have read so far. I will collect these completed sheets (front and back) on Mondays and Thursdays beginning Thursday (02/01). Double-entry journals will be checked on Wednesdays and Fridays, beginning this Friday (01/26). Homework: Complete any incomplete folder work or double-entry journals.
