3 Each member must attend at least 6 TFA tournaments throughout the school year. (Does not include Grapevine Classic or TFA State). If a student signs up for a tournament, he or she must attend and perform. Failure to compete at the tournament will result in payment of the entry fees. You must stay for the entire tournament. Exceptions will be made for a family emergency or an illness. Tournaments normally take place on Saturday from 6:30am - 10pm. Some tournaments will take place on Friday and Saturday. Out of town tournaments may require travel time on Thursday, Monday, or Tuesday. Mandatory 2 hours practice every month outside of class time. Critique cards will need to filled out.

4 Be on time. Students have been left in the past, resulting in payment of tournament fees. Bring money for concessions. Make sure suit and shoes are clean for each tournament. Be prepared to perform at anytime. No pass, no play. Teachers are willing to work with the student as long as the student works with them.

5 The Grapevine Classic is our annual tournament held by Grapevine High School for Debate and Oral Interpretation. This tournament is mandatory for every team member and cannot be completed without parent volunteers. We will need help with hospitality to create a successful tournament. Date: September 12th & 13 th Each student is required to bring a 24 pack of soda and a 24 pack of water. September 9th Judge Workshop @ 6:30pm in Room 805 (Mr. Hahn)

6 GHS Oral Interp Summer Camp is highly recommended for all team members to attend. At the camp, students will be working with award winning former students and coaches on performance pieces for the upcoming tournament season, learning new techniques, participating in a mock tournament, as well as bonding with the team! Cost: $250 Date: Monday-Friday 4 th -8 th & August 11 th Time: 9am – 4pm Location: Creekview High School Register by June 21, 2014. 8 George Mason University (Avg. $450) All members are allowed to attend. Harvard University (Avg. $475) Qualification needed to attend. TFA State (El Paso) Qualification needed to attend. UIL Regionals (Abilene) Qualification needed to attend. UIL State (Austin) Qualification needed to attend. NFL Nationals (Dallas, Texas) Qualification needed to attend.

9 Humorous Interp (HI) – This is an individual category and humorous in nature. HI usually includes 2-6 characters which enables the actor to find different voices, positions, and characteristics for each. Dramatic Interp (DI) – This is an individual category and dramatic in nature. DI usually consists with 1-2 (sometimes more) character(s). Duo Interp (DUO) – This event is competed with a partner. The selection can be humorous, dramatic, or a combination of the two. In this event you may not touch each other nor look at each other. Duet Acting (Duet) – This event, along with Duo, is competed with a partner. The selection can be humorous, dramatic, or a combination of the two. You may use two chairs in this event for set. Original Oratory (OO) – This individual event consists of a self written speech concerning a current problem and solution. One must research the topic to be able to speak confidently and intelligently.

10 Prose (PR) – This is an individual event where the speaker utilizes a small black binder to read their piece out of. The piece may be either dramatic, humorous, or both. (7 min long) Poetry (PO) – Same as Prose, but a poetic selection. (7 min long)

11 Suits should be solid black and well fitting. Shoes should be conservative professional dress shoes. Undershirts are a must (No writing on shirt). Socks MUST be black. Dress shirts should remain conservative and match appropriately with tie and suit. (No buttons on collar) A matching belt is required. Hair should be kept short length. (Above ears and out of eyes) Faces must remain clean shaven or be well kept. (Unless given permission) Keep ties conservative. No cartoon or crazy ties. No skinny ties. 13 2 or 3 inch black closed toed heels Black pantyhose are required - (make sure and always have an extra pair!) Suit skirt must match the suit jacket Camisoles and shells must be worn in a sophisticated matter with a conservative neck line. Hair should remain pinned back and out of your face during the entire tournament. No jewelry. Stud earrings are allowed.
