2 Today we are going to learn Sentences

Types of sentences according to its form and structure. About the clause . About finite verb .

5 Sentence is of three types according to its form and structure .
They are: a) Simple Sentence b)Compound Sentence c)Complex Sentence

6 Simple Sentence : Example: Nadia is in class nine .
A sentence which has only one Subject, only one Finite verb and Only one clause is called a simple sentence . Example: Nadia is in class nine . Subject Finite verb

7 Finite verb :A finite verb is a verb that completes the sentence’s speech and the form of verb must agree with its Subject in number person . Example : Returning from school, they play in the field . Subject Finite verb Clause : A group of words that forms part of a sentence , and has a Subject and a Predicate its own , is called a clause . A clause means a part of a sentence having a subject and a predicate of its own . Example: Returning from school , they play in the field . Clause

8 Clause are of three kinds :
They are : Principal clause : The principal clause can make a complete sense by itself . It does not have to depend on any other clause . Example : I know where he is . Principal clause 2 . Subordinate clause : The clause that is dependent on another clause to make a complete sense is called a Subordinate clause . Example : We know where he is . . Subordinate clause 3. Co-ordinate clause : A sentence having two principal clauses is called Co- ordinate clause . Example : I sent him a letter and he replied . Principal clause Principal clause

9 Make simple sentence by arranging the following words .
Reading /to /is/ them/ favourite . He/weak , /went/though/was/ to/ he/school . Imported/ Japan/ working/ the car/ bought / from/is/ well. Boy/ an/ shine/ industrious/ can/life/in . 5 . Ran/police , /the / away/ seeing/ thief/ the .

10 Reading /to /is/ them/ favourite .
Answer: Reading is favourite to them . 2 . He/weak , /went/though/was/ to/ he/school . Answer: Though he was weak , he went to school . 3 . Imported/ Japan/ working/ the car/ bought / from/is/ well. Answer: The car imported from Japan is working well . 4 . Boy/ an/ shine/ industrious/ can/life/in . Answer : An industrious boy can shine in life . 5. Ran/police , /the / away/ seeing/ thief/ the . Answer: Seeing the police , the thief ran away .

11 Compound Sentence : A compound sentence has more than one principal clause connected by one or more co- ordinating conjunction . Example: The man is rich but not happy. Note : In a compound sentence each clause is a principal clause and the following co –ordinating conjunction are usually used in it : and, but, or, both and, not only ……..but also, neither ……. Nor ,either…….. Or , otherwise ,therefore , on the contrary etc . More Example : He was not only a poet but also a dramatist . I always help you , on the contrary , you work against me . Neither Rahim nor his brothers are working here .

12 Make compound sentences by arranging the following words :
The/ get/ could/ train/ ran/ but/ he/ fast/ not/ he . The/ pass/ attentively/ read/ or/ examination/ you/ not / can . 3. They / also/ rebuked/ beat/ him /not/but/ also only . 4 . Home/ he/ and/ the work/ finished/ returned . 5 . Therefore ,/could/ was/ come/ ill ,/ not/he/he .

13 The/ get/ could/ train/ ran/ but/ he/ fast/ not/ he .
Ans: He ran fast but he could not get the train . 2. The/ pass/ attentively/ read/ or/ examination/ you/ not / can . Ans :Read attentively or you can not pass the examination . 3. They / also/ rebuked/ beat/ him /not/but/ also only . Ans : They not only rebuked him but also beat him . 4 . Home/ he/ and/ the work/ finished/ returned . Ans :He finished the work and returned home . 5 . Therefore ,/could/ was/ come/ ill ,/ not/he/he . Ans : He was ill , therefore , he could not come .

14 Note : A complex sentence must contain the following conjunctions:
A complex sentence is one that contains one principal clause with one or more suboridnate clauses Example : 1) We know when he will come . Principal clause Subordinate clause Conjunction Note : A complex sentence must contain the following conjunctions: that ,when , why , who , which , how , where , if , whether , as , because , though , until , unless , before , after , etc.

15 Rearrange the following complex sentences :

Ans : Though he was weak ,he went to school . 2 . Who/ shine/ industrious /the/ life/ in/ boy/ is/ can . Ans : The boy who is industrious can shine in life . 3 . They/ meeting/ started/ had/ when/home/ finished ,/for/ the . Ans : When the meeting had finished , they started for home . 4 . The/ get/ if/ pen/ you/not/ do/ come ,/ not/ you/will . Ans :If you do not come , you will not get pen . 5 . He/prosper/ so that/ in/ worked/life/ he/hard/ could. Ans : He worked hard so that he could prosper in life .

17 Home work : Complete the following sentences and find out
