2 What is wellness? Physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, and environmental health

3 Physical Health The condition of your body.

4 Physical Health A person who is physically healthy:
Exercises regularly Eats nutritiously Gets regular physical check-ups Avoids the use of tobacco, alcohol, or other illicit drugs

5 Emotional Health The way you recognize and deal with feelings.

6 Emotional Health A person who is emotionally healthy:
Keeps a positive attitude Is sensitive to their own feelings and the feelings of others Learns to cope with stress Is realistic about expectations and time Takes responsibility for their own behavior Deals with personal issues realistically Views challenges as opportunities rather than obstacles Functions independently but knows when to ask for help

Learns because they want to – not because they are told to. Learns through varied experiences – reading, writing, sharing and exploration Observes what is around them Listens Finds applications for material learned in the classroom Stays current with world affairs/news Questions Exposes them self to new experiences (e.g. arts, theater)

10 Social Health A person who is socially health:
Is comfortable with and liking them self as a person Interacts easily with people of different ages, backgrounds, races, lifestyles Contributes time and energy to the community Communicates their feelings Develops friendships Recognizes a need for “fun” time in life Budgets and balances time to include both responsibilities and relaxation

11 Spiritual Health Your beliefs, values, and morals.
A sense of purpose and meaning in life.

12 Spiritual Health A spiritually health person:
Is open to different cultures and religions Gives their time to volunteer or participate in community service activities Spends time defining personal values and ethics and makes decisions that complement them Spends time alone in personal reflection Participates in spiritual activities Participates in activities that protect the environment Cares about the welfare of others

13 Environmental Health The positive perception of the environment one works and lives in.

14 Environmental Health An environmentally healthy person:
Finds satisfaction and worth in their work Ensures their work environment and relationships are comfortable Is aware of the natural environment they live in Recognizes opportunities that lead to new skills and acts on those opportunities Works to ensure the stability and longevity of our natural resources
