2 RAND, SELWeb & What to Expect
Agenda: Looking at the RAND research cycle (Collection, Analysis, Formative Feedback, Action!) Take a look at what is currently available to you and how we can support your use of the reports, including the online dashboard. SELweb: Why do we use it? What can it help us work on? How do we engage in the process? What happens next? What’s next? + Closing Take a look at the session, note that in about minutes I’ll be doing a demo of the dashboard and if you’d like to follow along, you’re welcome to get your tech out right now and prepare to follow along with that Three minutes tops

3 Welcome Truly, we live with mysteries too marvelous to be understood. How grass can be nourishing in the mouths of the lambs. How rivers and stones are forever in allegiance with gravity while we ourselves dream of rising. How two hands touch and the bonds will never be broken. How people come, from delight or the scars of damage, to the comfort of a poem. Let me keep my distance, always, from those who think they have the answers. Let me keep company always with those who say “Look!” and laugh in astonishment, and bow their heads. *SKIPPED DURING SESSION* Turn and introduce yourself to your neighbor, say thanks for being here Give a guess at why I chose this to open this particular session Wrap around 10:30

4 RAND: Collection, Analysis, Formative Feedback, Action!
In your packet, you’ll see a graphic that represents the various pieces of RAND’s research and what it means to the overall initiative

5 Example of Action after Formative Feedback
“Plan, enact, and monitor cross-site PLCs.” “Incorporate staff needs into year 2 PD planning.” “Strategize ways to align OST training with that of school in year 2, given the unique OST structure in Boston.” In year 2, schedule cross-site PLCs early. Share the schedule and objectives. We’ve now had two! One of the top two topics staff listed a need for additional PD was strategies to adapt SEL practices for students from different cultures or students with different learning needs. We have two PD opportunities coming up: Case Study of SEL and Dyslexia on Feb 1st at District Hall, and a Tier 1 Training for Restorative Practices. School and OST staff are also both invited to a variety of PD led by BPS on integrating. CLSP/SEL Work in progress on combined PD but we’ve worked it into today and the coaches and I have been working together to help this progress.
