1) Northern farms were important for aiding the war effort because they were still able to feed their people. When southern farms were destroyed they had less food to feed soliders. Impact

15 Millions of slaves were freed as a result of the war
13th AMENDMENT was passed in 1865 to officially end slavery and make it illegal in the United States
