Mixtures, con.’t Solutions Mixture that appears to be a single substance but is composed of particles of 2 or more substances that are distributed evenly amongst each other Homogeneous mixture-same appearance & properties throughout the mixture Particles are so small that they never settle out nor can they be filtered out

Mixtures, con.’t Suspensions A mixture in which particles of a material are dispersed throughout a liquid or gas but are large enough that they settle out Heterogeneous mixture- different components can be easily seen Can be separated by passing through a filter Particles scatter or block light Example-snow globe, blood, Italian salad dressing

Mixtures, con.’t Colloids A mixture in which the particles are dispersed throughout but are not heavy enough to settle out Particles scatter light Cannot be separated by filtration Examples-whipped cream, fog, milk, mayonnaise
