1. Slavery
North-Against slavery
South-For slavery
The South's economy depended on slavery.
(plantations / agriculture -Cotton was king. (King Cotton)
2. States Rights
North- Wanted a stronger Federal government.
South- Wanted for the states to be more powerful than the Federal government.
"States should make their own decisions."
3. Unfair Tariffs
Tariff- A tax on imported goods. The South was trading goods with Europe, and the Federal government increased taxes (tariffs) on the South in order to encourage the South to trade more with the North.
