2. Purpose To use a grid to accurately draw an animal of your choice.
To show value (light- dark) through cross hatching or stippling.
To abstract forms from life (to breakdown into simplified shapes).
To use stippling or cross hatching to go from light to dark in order to create the illusion of 3D form (animal).

3. Directions
1. Complete your value scale in either cross hatching or stippling, whichever one you are going to use in your drawing..

6. 4. Hold your original picture & your paper upside down to help you utilize the Right side of your brain!

7. 5. Draw your animal in pencil on your big paper
5. Draw your animal in pencil on your big paper. Use the squares to help you accurately place the animals features & details. Only use line, no shading yet!

8. 6. Transfer your line drawing on the light box to a clean piece of 12x15 paper very lightly with pencil.

9. 7. Look very closely at your original picture
7. Look very closely at your original picture. Notice where the lights & darks are. Very carefully use a sharpie to fill in the values that create your animal. We will be erasing your pencil lines later, do not go over them in sharpie!

13. Criteria for Success The Student Will…
Successfully complete a value scale in either stippling or cross hatching
Accurately grid your picture & paper for your drawing.
Successfully use the grid technique to accurately draw your animal.
Apply value through cross hatching or stippling in the right places to create the illusion of a 3D form (animal).
Use excellent craftsmanship throughout the entire picture.
