1 Who are we? We migrated to avoid persecution in the East.
We found opportunity and freedom in the West. We eventually settled in the Great Salt Basin. Religious group that settled in Utah

2 Who are we? We fought for our independence and freedom in 1836.
We worked side by side with slave-owning Americans Our lives became much more difficult when we became “Americans” Spanish speaking population from Texas

3 What was I? I was created at the end of the Mexican-American War to deal with a constitutional issue I was part of the Compromise of 1850 Northerners strictly opposed me because it made them part of the “system” I returned “property” to Southerners

4 Who are we? A good portion of us came from the Mississippi Valley after economic problems there Some of us migrated by land, others by sea We were seeking opportunity in California Gold Rush

5 What was I? I divided and destroyed the party founded by Henry Clay
Stephen Douglas was one of my main authors Free-Soilers despied my existence I opened up the Louisiana Territory to slavery for the second time.

6 Who was I? I was the leading Radical Republican in the House of Representative at the beginning of Reconstruction. My theory was that Confederate States were now dead states, conquered territories I was from Pennsylvania, once a Federalist, then a Whig, then a Republican. My “housekeeper” (wife) was a black woman

7 What am I? “You say you will not fight to free negroes. Some of them seem willing to fight for you.” “I thought that in your struggle for the Union, to whatever extent the negroes should cease helping the enemy, to that extent it weakened the enemy in his resistance” “But negroes, like other people, act upon motives. Why should they do any thing for us, if we will do nothing for them?”

8 What am I? I was the bloodiest day of American History
The two sides that fought me were led by Lee and McClellan I allowed Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation I kept the French and British from joining the war

9 What was I? I was named after the nearby town in Virginia where I was fought for 9 months Victory at me allowed Lincoln to win the Election I was actually more of siege than an actual battle Last major win of the war for the North

10 What am I? I was created to protect rich Southerners
My creation led to the anger amongst southern soldiers “20” was the key number Slave Owners…

11 What are we? Two biggest losses in casualties for the Union for the war. Grant vs. Lee Despite Union losses, General Grant stayed on the offensive _______ylvania and _________ Harbor.

12 Who am I? “I stand on the Constitution”
I was one of only 4 Presidents to go back into politics after being president Only Southern Senator to stay with the Union Pardoned ex-Confederates if they apologized personally

13 What was I? Decisive battle in the Western Theater in
Was a battle that involved river gun boats versus a fortified city Sherman and Grant were the Union commanders in this battle Gave the Union control of the Mississippi River

14 What am I? Includes a section that says the United States will not pay back any money to any country that funded a rebellion One section explain how states could get back their “2/5’s” Allowed blacks to vote in the South for the first time Establishes equal rights for all Americans

15 What was I? “Fondly do we hope--fervently do we pray--that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away” “Yet, if God wills that it continue, until all the wealth piled by the bond- man's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk,” “and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash, shall be paid by another drawn with the sword” “as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said "the judgments of the Lord, are true and righteous altogether"
