1. Mission
A mission statement provides the organization with a sense of purpose. Without explicit purpose any organization is doomed to performing its functions without any specific direction or goal in mind.

2. Mission - Benefits
Perhaps the most important benefit is that by developing a mission statement managers have the opportunity to focus on issues of critical importance to the organization. A second benefit of the mission statement is the clarification of the organizational purpose.
