Zastrow/Kirst-Ashman, Understanding Generalist Practice, 4e Note to professor or Thomson Rep: This registration applies to 2008, 2007 and select 2006 titles only. Hello, my name is __________________, your school’s Thomson representative. I thank you and your professor for giving me this time to walk you through the ThomsonNOW registration process. The tips I’m going to outline in the next few minutes will make the process much more smooth for you.

2 ThomsonNOW is an easy-to-use online resource that helps you study in less time to get the grade you want! ThomsonNOW slides for Kirst-Ashman/Hull, Understanding Generalist Practice, 4e. First, we will discuss what ThomsonNOW is and how to use it. Then, we will discuss how to you can get registered to use this amazing tool/resource.

Student Advantages: This product is tied directly to your text You can gauge your unique study needs & determine where you need to spend your study time so you can get the desired grade in the course The video clips give you a glimpse of what is it like in the field The critical thinking questions that accompany the videos help you think about your own responses to a given situation Student Advantages: Assessment centered tutorial tied to the text helps students gauge their unique study needs – This helps students focus on where they need to spend their study time to get the desired grade in the course Instructor Advantages: Interactive components including video segments allow students to see ‘helpers in action’ – We have selected the clips specific to each chapters content saving your instructor time. Measurement components provide ability to track student progress & outcome – Instructors can see how their students are grasping the concepts and can show the professor if they need to revisit a topic. This is also important for tracking purposes in preparation for reaccreditation. Instructors can assign the pre- and post-tests

4 Table of Contents This is the table of contents for Understanding Generalist Practice. Simply click on the chapter your instructor has assigned to you. Using this product is also a great way to review the chapter material before a test or quiz.

5 Diagnostic Pre-Test You can begin using ThomsonNOW for Understanding Generalist Practice independently as soon as you log on--no instructor set up is required. ThomsonNow is easy to use and in three easy steps you’ll be on your way to better test scores. Step 1…The Pre-Test uses diagnostic quiz questions to give you an initial assessment of how you’re grasping the chapter content.

6 Pre-Test Results When you complete a Pre-Test, you are provided with immediate feedback by question, your overall score, and a score breakdown by sections within the chapter. When you review the complete Pre-Test, you will notice the right column lets you know if you got the answer right or wrong, the correct answer and where the material is found in the text. So if you got the question wrong and you want to look up the answer you know where to go in the text. Then you are given a Personalized Study Plan containing references to your book as well as video clips. These interactivities and questions are designed to help students gain mastery of key concepts.

7 Personalized Study Plan
At the heart of ThomsonNow are completely personalized study plans generated by each student’s incorrect responses to diagnostic pre-tests. Identifying exactly the content areas that each student needs to focus on, ThomsonNow ensures that you spend your study time where their efforts will make the most difference. For every topic that a student needs to review, ThomsonNow provides links to learning activities that offer alternative ways to understand the concepts. From your study plans, students can instantly access: Specific textbook pages Video clips that reveal real-life situations from the field along with critical thinking questions to drive important points home For student convenience, a complete eBook is integrated into ThomsonNOW

8 Integrated Text Pages From your study plans, you can instantly access:
specific textbook pages to review concepts where you scored low on your diagnostic pre-tests. This is helpful because it links you directly to the areas where you need specific help.

9 Video Clips From your study plans, you can instantly access:
Video clips help reinforce concepts and show you examples you will encounter in the field. These videos also assist visual learners with difficult concepts. These videos are timely and illustrate the content you’re learning in that chapter. Critical Questions accompany each video to get students to think more in depth about the topics discussed in the video segment. These questions can be assigned and ed to the instructor. Great for homework or extra-credit.

10 Post-Test After completing your Personalized Study Plans, you can take a Post-Test to see how much your mastery of the material has improved. If you still have gaps in your knowledge, an updated personalized Study plan is generated. You can go through this process as many times as you want. After working through a Personalized Study Plan, you complete a Post-Test to assess your mastery of core chapter concepts. Just like the pre-test you are provided with immediate feedback and a project summary. Those results can be ed to your instructor.

11 Post-Test Results After completing your Personalized Study Plans, you can take a Post-Test to see how much your mastery of the material has improved. 13 View Your Progress At any time, you can assess your progress by comparing their Pre-Test and Post-Test results.

14 ThomsonNOW Registration Walkthrough
Now we will walk your students through the registration process so they can start using ThomsonNOW today!

15 Go to www.thomsonedu.com/login.
Click "Create My Account“. Your first stop is You will need to click on “Create My Account” to begin the registration process.

16 Click on the “student” button.
On this page please click on the “student” button.

17 Enter your access code. It came with your textbook or you may have purchased it online or at the bookstore. To begin using ThomsonNOW you must enter a unique access code that allows you to create your personal account. You’ll find this access code on the printed card that accompanies your textbook. Or, if you purchase ThomsonNOW online, you’ll receive the access code at that time.

18 Enter your account information
and then click on the “continue” button. On this page, you’ll need to enter some basic information at the Account Information Page. You’ll need to create a password that’s six to fifteen characters in length. It’s a good idea to write the password down for later reference. The program is case sensitive, so take note of whether you’ve used upper or lower case letters. Your address will become your username. (REP: You might want to have an example of this card on hand, so that students will be able to easily find what they’re looking for.)

19 Read through the license agreement and then
click on “I Agree” and then “continue”. Once you’ve entered your information, you’ll reach the End User License Agreement. Be sure to read through the entire statement, and if you agree, click “I Agree” to continue on.

20 "My Dashboard" lists all of your available resources.
Select the ThomsonNOW resources and continue registering.  Here is your Thomsonedu “dashboard.” On this page, you can see all the resources that are available to you for your textbook. From this page, you can click into any of these resources. To continue in your ThomsonNOW registration process, click on the link that appears next to the ThomsonNOW logo.

21 Enter your school name and click “search”.
To continue, you’ll need to search for your school name and your specific campus (i.e. downtown campus or North campus) if necessary. Please enter the name of the school in the box provided. Then, click search. (REP: If the correct terms aren’t immediately obvious, or there are a lot of options, you might want to provide the suggested search terms for the students, in order to help them get the best possible results.)

22 Select your school and then click “continue”.
To confirm your choice, a list of schools will appear on the next screen. Click on the appropriate choice, and hit “continue.” If you don’t get the results you’re looking for, you can click on “search again,” and if you’re still having trouble, you can contact Tech Support. It will take a couple of seconds to process this.

23 Account creation confirmation.
Verify the information and click on “continue”. This will take you to the homepage of ThomsonNOW.

24 If your professor requires a course key, click on “Register for a Course”. If you’re using ThomsonNOW for self-study, click on the course materials tab.

25 Enter your course key given to you by your instructor.
Then click on “Use This Course Key”. If you received a code from your instructor, you received a Course Key, which is the code ThomsonNOW uses to identify the course you are taking. Enter your course key in the box. [IF NEEDED: Note that some classes are organized as sections of a main course. You can only enroll for one section of a course at a time. If you enroll in a second section, you will be unenrolled from the first.]

26 You are now enrolled in your course.
Click on your "Homepage" tab to begin using ThomsonNOW.
